For nearly 45 years, KATAOKA has been firmly maintaining the development and manufacture of machine tools designed exclusively for machining piston rings. It was in 1963 when we began to put challenges to a niche market of developing special-purpose machine tools for machining piston rings, indispensable components to be incorporated into the engines of automobiles, ships and other engine-driven vehicles, by utilizing our various technologies and know-how as to general-purpose lathes as a basis. Anticipating a new development of auto-part manufacturing in Japan, we stepped into an infinite road of the development of special-purpose machine tools designed to realize higher quality, higher productivity and lower cost. Since then, we have developed and manufactured over 90 types of machines. In recent years, we have started the development and manufacture of machine tools dedicated to machining camshafts and to machining seal rings for automatic transmissions and rotary engines, paving the way to new fields.
When we look back to the past developments and reassuring ourselves that “whenever we accomplish one goal of development, we encounter a more difficult theme there and begin to challenge ourselves to this next theme,” we realize that we are unfolding the same scenes of development. First of all, we are requested to change ourselves, and then we are evolved as if we were led by our fate. For this reason, we get conscious of our fortune, think things simply, get sensitive to requirements, keep our strong will and genuine insight, repeat thinking and concept-making and put them into practice.
